The Thing About Bathrooms and Boys....

So I have 4 boys, 3 of which are potty trained and for the life of me I cannot stand it when they don't lift up the toilet seat to pee.  I've asked yelled, demanded, shown, and yet they do not and I know they get that from their dad....He's very, VERY difficult to train. I've learned now to look before I sit so that I can clean up any stray drops or in the case of the kids, puddles. Now since I can't train their dad, he's the perfect example of the saying "You can't teach and old dog new tricks", I figure if I start early enough I can train the boys to lift the seat.  If that doesn't work at least they'll know how to clean up after themselves... properly!!!   I believe this is essential to life skills, as I have see many a nasty bathroom in my time, and most of them have been at bachelor pads!  Any one remember the scene in "What happens in Vegas" when Cameron Diaz (aka Joy), sees the bathroom for the first time?

EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW!!!!

So I've decided to impart to you, my secret strategy, (which is probably not a secret too some of you), of getting my boys to clean and do the chores I so desperately want done. Now I've begged, pleaded, asked and yelled at my boys to clean up after themselves to no avail until I tried this. It was simply amazing how they actually got right into it!

First I called a Family Meeting and I had a list of chores which I let them choose the one they wanted to do for 10 minutes. I think the time limit is key for little boys as they have no attention span, and VIOLA!!!! I had a helpers who even after the 10 minute time limit was up, wanted to keep doing their chosen job and finish it!!!! I was amazed and so happy I didn't have to yell to get help....and now I have a clean bathroom, with no more drips on the seat.

AAAAAhhhhhhhhhh!

Cheers and Happy Sitting..... S.W.
